Global Switch opens its tenth data centre

Release date: 20.08.2014

Global Switch the leading owner and operator of large scale, carrier neutral data centre space in Europe and Asia-Pacific, has launched the first stage of Sydney East, its tenth data centre.  The new data centre has been built on Global Switch's campus next to its existing Sydney West data centre which is adjacent to the Sydney Central Business District (CBD).

Sydney East offers high density power solutions and incorporates some of the latest environmental design features (including free cooling, reconfigurable power and cooling distribution, and a green roof providing thermal protection and at the same time reducing solar glare).  The Tier III+ world class data centre has been designed with a target annualised PUE of 1.35 and is seeking a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Rating.

Once the last two stages of the $300 million development are complete, the Campus will provide 67 MW of utility power with around 67,000 sq m of gross space.

Sydney East has direct access to the existing network dense low latency environment that Global Switch Sydney West benefits from, including over 50 network and cloud providers. With the addition of Sydney East, the Campus now provides four diverse entry points and six meet me rooms. It is one of the best connected buildings in Australia, serves as a hub for digital business such as Cloud and was recently chosen by Amazon for its latest Direct Connect solution.

John Corcoran, Global Switch's Executive Chairman and CEO said "the expansion of our Sydney campus was in response to a number of large national and multi-national companies requiring highly resilient and secure space for housing mission critical IT equipment, as well as the need for a highly connected solution close to the CBD.  It is excellent news that this first stage of Sydney East has been successfully delivered on time to our customers.

''Global Switch Sydney is a core node not just for Sydney and Australia but in terms of connectivity and services, a key hub for the Asia Pacific region as a whole. With our data centre in Singapore also having significant sub-sea cable system infrastructure present and our new data centre in Hong Kong underway, Global Switch is developing a truly large scale data centre platform serving the world's largest companies."

Damon Reid, Global Switch's Managing Director in Sydney said "I would like to thank our customers for supporting the development of Sydney East, our latest data centre.  We have customers deploying the latest in storage, compute and networking solutions making Global Switch Sydney home for significant new cloud deployments and that is pulling new customers, both national and international, to our data centre. Our location on the edge of the CBD, which is an important characteristic across our portfolio is a key driver and is proving very attractive to both service providers and end users.''
